Biden Decides on Response Strategy for Drone Attack

When asked about his decision on responding to the drone attack in Jordan that resulted in the deaths of three American troops, President Joe Biden confirmed he has made a decision, though he did not disclose the details.

Biden acknowledged that the attack, which U.S. officials attribute to Iran-backed militants, demands a careful response. While he affirmed that Iran is accountable for supplying the weapons used in the attack, he emphasized that he is not seeking to escalate the situation into a broader conflict.

The president has been under pressure to take decisive action, particularly from some Republicans who advocate for a strong retaliation against Iran. However, Biden aims to balance a firm response with the need to avoid drawing the U.S. into a wider war, especially amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby mentioned that the U.S. response would be “tiered” but refrained from providing specific details. He stressed that the goal is to protect U.S. interests and respond appropriately without escalating the situation further.

Biden has also been in contact with the families of the deceased service members and plans to attend their dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base on Friday, as confirmed by Kirby.
